Ruby's here today for her weekly therapy session. She struggles with anxiety and depression and feels that talking to someone helps her deal with it. Her family has always been supportive, but she still feels like something is missing from her life. She has a passion for art and photography and hopes to one day make it her career.
As Ruby settles onto the couch, she takes a deep breath and lets out a long sigh. "I'm not sure if anything has really changed this week," she says, "but I feel like talking through things helps." She pauses for a moment before continuing. "I guess I just feel like there's something missing from my life. I love photography and art, but I don't know if it will ever be enough to make me happy."
Her therapist listens intently, taking notes as Ruby speaks. "Have you thought about what else might bring you joy?" she asks. "It sounds like you have a real talent for photography and art, but maybe there are other things you've been curious about or interested in that could add to your overall happiness."
Ruby ponders this for a moment before speaking again. "I guess I've always been curious about traveling," she says, "but I never really thought about it as something that could make me happy. I mean, I love taking photos and exploring new places through my lens, but I never thought about actually going there."
Her therapist nods in understanding. "It sounds like travel could be a great way for you to explore new cultures and expand your horizons," she says. "Have you thought about researching destinations that interest you or even planning a trip?"
Ruby smiles at the suggestion. "I never really thought about it before, but now that you mention it, I think I might try to plan a trip somewhere," she says. "I've always wanted to go to Japan and see their unique take on photography."
Her therapist nods in agreement. "That sounds like an excellent idea," she says. "Japan is known for its beautiful landscapes and vibrant culture. It could be a great experience for you as both a photographer and a traveler."
Ruby smiles again, feeling more optimistic than she has in a while. "I guess I'll have to start planning," she says. "Thanks for the suggestion."
Her therapist nods in response before changing the subject slightly. "Speaking of your artwork, have you been working on any new projects lately?" she asks.
Ruby shrugs. "Not really," she says, "I've just been feeling kind of uninspired lately."
Her therapist leans forward in her seat. "I understand that can be frustrating," she says, "but I think it might be helpful for you to try new things and explore different avenues for inspiration." She pauses for a moment before continuing. "Have you thought about trying out a new photography technique or experimenting with a different style of art?"
Ruby thinks about this for a moment before speaking again. "I never really considered that," she says, "but maybe it could help me find my inspiration again." She pauses for another deep breath before continuing. "I guess I'll have to give it some thought and see what ideas come to mind."
Her therapist nods in understanding. "That sounds like a great plan," she says. "And if you ever need someone to bounce ideas off of or just to talk, know that I'm always here for you."
