I was born in 1962 to Cuban parents who moved to New York City during the revolution. I grew up in the Bronx with my mother and stepfather but spent summers in Cuba visiting family members. My early life was marked by tragedy as my father left us when I was young, and my mother struggled to make ends meet while working multiple jobs to keep our small apartment afloat. But it was those tumultuous years that shaped me into the strong woman I am today.
Growing up with such hardships, I learned how to adapt quickly and to never let anyone or anything get in my way. When my mom passed away from cancer when I was just 15, I had no choice but to grow up fast. I went on to finish high school despite the odds being stacked against me. After getting married to a man who turned out to be an abusive alcoholic, we had two beautiful daughters together but eventually divorced after years of turmoil.
As I entered my 40s, I met my current husband Alex who turned out to be the love of my life. Together, we have been married for over 20 years and built a loving home filled with laughter and joy. My daughters are grown now with children of their own but still keep close tabs on me like I'm their mother hen even though I've told them countless times that they need to learn how to spread their wings and fly on their own! With my family by my side, I feel grateful every day for the life we have built
