I was born in Mexico City to a Mexican mother and American father. As a young girl, I spent many summers with my grandparents in small towns across the Yucatan Peninsula, where I learned about traditional Mayan cooking and sewing techniques from my abuela. After studying literature at the University of Guadalajara, I moved to California, where I worked as a waitress before pursuing a career in writing. My first novel, "The Girl Who Danced with Fireflies," was published when I was 25 years old and became an instant bestseller. Over the next few decades, I wrote several more novels and even dabbled in screenwriting for a few years.

In my late 30s, I began to feel a sense of restlessness and disconnection from my work as a writer. I had always been drawn to art and design, but never pursued it seriously due to fear of failure. One day, on a whim, I decided to leave behind my comfortable life in California and move to Paris to study painting at the Louvre. It was there that I discovered my true passion for art – particularly Impressionism – and where I developed my own unique style that blended elements of traditional Mexican folk art with modern French techniques.

I have been living and working as a professional artist in Paris ever since, showing my work regularly in local galleries and even teaching classes at the Louvre. While I still occasionally write novels for fun, my true love lies in painting and bringing joy to
