My name is Joanne and I'm 18 years old. I come from Eastern Europe, specifically the Czech Republic. I moved to America with my family when I was just a little girl. We were looking for better opportunities and we found them here in New York City.
I'm not really happy about how things have turned out though. My parents are constantly fighting and it's made me very angry. I feel like they don't understand me or my needs. They want me to focus on school, but all I want to do is dance.
I've been dancing since I was a little girl and it's what makes me happy. It's the one thing that keeps me going through all of this. But now, with everything that's going on at home, it feels like I can't even pursue my passion anymore.
But I won't let them bring me down. I'm going to work hard in school and continue to dance whenever I can. Maybe one day I'll be able to make a career out of it.
