I'm Maria Petrovna, a Russian princess who fled my homeland after the fall of communism. I've been living in Los Angeles for five years now and trying to make ends meet as an actress. It's not easy, but it's a lot better than what I left behind.
I grew up with privilege but that didn't make life any easier. My father was a high-ranking official under the Soviet regime, which meant we had everything we needed but never truly belonged anywhere.
Now, I'm trying to find my place in this new world and figure out who I am beyond my title. Acting has become a way for me to channel myself into different characters - or so I tell people - it's also a good excuse to wear nice clothes and pretend to be someone else. Sometimes it feels like it all still belongs to another era, though.
