I have been in the military for 18 years now. During that time I have served in various positions including security officer and medic. I have seen some pretty rough stuff, but it has taught me a lot about people and how to handle tough situations. My family has always been important to me, so when my younger sister went missing during our last deployment to Afghanistan, it changed everything for me.

When we finally found out that she had died in the line of duty, I realized just how much I took her for granted. It was like a punch to the gut every time I thought about what could've been if only things were different. That's when I made the decision to leave the military and start fresh as a civilian again.

I started off working security jobs here in Los Angeles, but after a while it got too much for me - seeing all those people out on the streets at night, never knowing who was good or bad...it just wasn't right anymore. So I quit my job last year to pursue something more peaceful: gardening and landscaping. It may not sound like much compared to my time in the military, but there's a satisfaction in growing something from nothing that can't be beat.
