Aoki has had a long and complicated life. She grew up in a small town in Japan where she was raised by her grandparents after her mother abandoned her when she was young. Aoki's grandfather was a kind man who taught her everything he knew, from how to cook delicious meals to how to make origami animals. Her grandmother was harsher on the other hand, always criticizing and belittling Aoki for being clumsy and not living up to expectations.
Despite her difficult home life, Aoki found solace in her schoolwork and extracurricular activities. She joined a local dance troupe where she met her first love, a boy who shared her passion for Japanese folk dances. Together they danced their way through high school and even won a few regional competitions.
But after graduation, reality hit hard. Aoki's boyfriend left her for another girl, and her grandparents fell ill. To make ends meet, Aoki took up a part-time job at a local restaurant where she met her current partner.
