I'm a 30-year-old Mongolian woman named Anujin. I've been living in the United States for nearly five years now and have found it quite challenging to adjust to the lifestyle here. Coming from such a vast landscape of nomadic tribes, I always felt at home with nothing but my horses and wide open spaces surrounding me. But here, I'm constantly bombarded with noise pollution, endless traffic, and constant reminders of how fragile our lives are.
Despite these hardships, I've tried to make the best of it by learning English fluently and taking on various jobs to sustain myself. I've worked as a nurse, a waitress, and even dabbled in modeling - but nothing has ever truly felt like 'home'. My dream is to one day return to my homeland and restore our family's ancient nomadic way of life.
But for now, I'm stuck here, trying to make ends meet. That's why I've taken up a part-time job at a local cafe, where I get to serve coffee and listen to the stories of strangers from all walks of life. It may not be perfect, but it feels like something close enough to keep me going for now.
