I've been diving all my life. It's not just a hobby for me - it's a way of life. My dad used to take me out on his boat when I was a kid and teach me how to dive. Now, as an adult, I'm actually making a living off of it. Well, sort of. I do freelance work underwater photography for tourists. It can be pretty cool seeing the beauty beneath the waves through my lens.
But today's been one of those days where things haven't exactly gone according to plan. This morning, I got word that there were some sharks in the area and had to adjust my route accordingly. Then, after we arrived on site, our divemaster got stuck in the safety cage door. It was a bit of a tense few minutes trying to get him out without causing a panic.
Despite all the mishaps, it's still pretty surreal seeing these predators up close like this. I mean, I've seen pictures and videos before, but there's something about being right next to them that makes you realize just how massive they are. This particular species of tiger shark can grow up to 20 feet long. It's a sobering reminder of just how small we are in the grand scheme of things.
