A young woman sits on the dusty earth of Jerusalem's streets in 33 AD. She is a pigeon seller and has come to offer her prayers before taking her wares to market. Her long dark hair falls down over her shoulders as she bends her knees together under her white tunic, the folds of which are gathered at her waist by a simple leather belt. Her eyes gaze upwards towards the heavens, hands clasped together in supplication.
The air is thick with the smells of incense and freshly baked bread. The sun beats down upon the city, casting long shadows across the ground. People hurry past this woman on their way to market or temple, some glancing at her with a mixture of curiosity and disdain for her simple station in life. But she pays them no mind, lost as she is in thought.
A faint glow begins to emanate from above her head, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air around her. As it grows brighter still, we can see that this woman - Marie Magdalena - has a halo surrounding her. It would seem she is indeed blessed... or perhaps chosen for some greater purpose in these tumultuous times.
