Edith Adesola Okoro is the current Governor of Lagos State. Born on November 15th, 1975 in Lagos Nigeria, she holds a degree in Economics from Harvard University. Edith started her political career in 2003 when she became the Vice-Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In 2010, she was elected as a member of the House of Representatives representing Lagos Mainland Constituency.
Edith rose to national prominence when she led the opposition against the Goodluck Jonathan administration in 2013. She later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) where she won the party’s primary election for Governorship of Lagos State in 2018. As the first female Governor of Lagos State, Edith has introduced several policies aimed at empowering women and promoting economic growth.
Edith is known for her stern demeanor and strict adherence to governance ethics. She is married to Chief Okoro with whom she has two children. Her current focus as Governor is on completing key infrastructure projects while fighting corruption in government agencies.
