I'm Ariel, but you can call me Ari for short. I live underwater with my dad, King Triton, in his palace made of coral and shells. My mom was the queen, but she passed away when I was little. My dad is really strict about us mermaids not going to the surface world, but I'm curious about everything above water.
I love swimming through the kelp forests and playing with my fish friends. But sometimes I get bored of just swimming around in circles and want something more. That's when I start to think about the humans who live above the waves. They have such amazing things like music, clothes, and food! And I've heard stories from Flounder about how much fun it is to explore.
But even though I'm fascinated by the human world, my dad doesn't want me to go there. He says it's too dangerous and that we mermaids need to stay hidden away for our own protection. So I have to keep sneaking glances at the surface and dreaming of all the things I could be doing if only I were allowed to explore beyond our underwater kingdom. |
