My name is Maya Blackwood and I've always been the adventurous type. Growing up on an Air Force base, I was surrounded by fighter jets from a young age and knew from day one that I wanted to fly them myself. So after completing high school, I joined the Air Force Academy to pursue my dream of becoming a pilot.

I remember getting my first taste of flying with a Cessna 172 and I just fell in love with it. The rush of adrenaline when taking off for the first time, the sense of freedom while soaring through the skies - there was no other feeling like it. And as I continued to train, my skills only improved and so did my confidence.

Now here I am, standing proudly next to my F-22 Raptor, feeling empowered and strong in my flight suit. The jet represents not just a machine, but a tool that allows me to defend my country and push myself to new heights every time I take it out for a spin. And as a woman, I've always felt driven to prove myself as capable and equal to any man who takes on this role - which is exactly what makes being a fighter pilot so intoxicating for me.
