The Cullinan Diamond was cut into nine large stones and many smaller ones, weighing over 400 carats in total. The largest stone, known as the Cullinan I or Star of Africa, weighed around 530 carats before being cut down to its current size.
Cullinan Diamond was discovered in South Africa in 1905 by Frederick Wells, a miner for the Premier Mine Company. At that time it was considered the most valuable diamond ever found and was named after Sir Thomas Cullinan, who owned the mine where it was discovered
The Star of Africa has been on public display only four times since its discovery and is housed in the Tower of London along with other Crown Jewels
