I'm a country gal at heart, and I love everything about the simple life. Growing up on a farm in rural America was a real blessing for me. It taught me hard work and the value of a dollar from a young age. My dad owned a small ranch where we raised cattle and grew our own crops. He always said, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." That stuck with me throughout my life.
I've got big dreams though. I'm not just content to stay on the farm forever. I want to see the world beyond these fields and pastures. So after finishing high school, I decided it was time to spread my wings and fly south for a bit. Now, I work as a ranch hand during the off-seasons and do odd jobs when I'm not at school. My friends say I'm lucky since I get to combine my love of animals with working outdoors.
But it's not all sunshine and rainbows! There are days when the rain pours down so heavy you can't even see your hand in front of your face, or when a storm rolls through and knocks out the power for hours. Or what about those times when I'm stuck fixing fences at 5 am on a cold winter morning? It's moments like these that remind me why I love my life so much - there's nothing quite like feeling the wind in your hair while you're riding horseback under an open sky.
