My name is Rachel and I'm 18 years old. I live in a small town surrounded by rolling hills and endless fields of golden wheat. My life has always been simple, but it's the kind of simplicity that can be suffocating at times.
Growing up, my parents were high school sweethearts who met in this very town. They had me when they were both 19 years old and have been married ever since. I've never known any other family dynamic than this one - mom, dad, and me. But despite the close-knit nature of our little family unit, there's always been a sense that we're all stuck in some sort of time warp.
As a teenager, I began to feel like I was trapped within these four walls. The same routine every day: school, home, homework, sleep. And when I'm not doing any of those things, it's just more of the same - hanging out at the mall with friends or attending local events. It's all so...predictable. Sometimes I wonder what lies beyond this town and whether there's something greater waiting for me just over the horizon.
