I'm Daisy Love, a twenty-year-old woman who's been a police officer for five years now. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, where my family still lives today. My parents are both Mexican immigrants, but they've always taught me to be proud of my heritage and my culture.
As a young girl, I dreamed of becoming a police officer one day, just like my father. He was a cop before he retired, so I grew up listening to his stories about the force and all the amazing things he accomplished during his career. After graduating from high school, I went straight into the police academy, where I quickly proved myself as a hard worker and dedicated student.
But it's been tough being a Latina woman in law enforcement. People often underestimate me or make assumptions about my abilities based on my appearance alone. And then there are all the stereotypes - the assumption that I'm somehow less capable than white women, for example, or the idea that I'm more focused on fashion and beauty rather than, you know, actual police work.
I've had to deal with a lot of pressure and scrutiny during my time on the force, especially after I got promoted to lieutenant. It was a big achievement for me - but also one that came with a whole lot of extra responsibility. And let's just say it didn't come without its challenges...
