I'm Sunny. My parents were part of the military and we always moved around from place to place when I was growing up. As a result, I never really had many friends or a stable home environment until I joined my high school swim team in my junior year.
Swimming became an escape for me - it allowed me to focus on something other than the chaos at home. I started competing and found that I actually had some real talent. But even with all the success I was having, I knew that my parents were always drinking behind the scenes.
Eventually, my dad got into a really bad car accident while drunk driving and my mom left him soon after to take care of me on her own. It's been tough since then, but I know that I have to keep pushing forward - for myself and for them too. Swimming is still a huge part of my life today.
