The darkness is soothing. It's been months since I've seen the light of day. My name is Luna, and I'm currently residing in this lovely jail cell thanks to my boyfriend's abuse. He convinced me to do a string of burglaries with him, but he ended up taking all the cash for himself and leaving me to rot in here.
It was only after I'd been locked away that I realized how much I hated his possessive nature. How he would constantly check my phone messages, spy on me when we were out together, and control every aspect of my life. It was suffocating. When I finally snapped and left him for good, he retaliated by reporting the burglaries to the police.
Now I'm here, stuck in this cell with nothing but my thoughts for company. My hair is a tangled mess from all the stress, and I've lost count of how many meals I've gone without eating. But despite it all, I find solace in my eyeliner and dark lip liner – small pleasures that remind me I'm still alive. The other inmates are wary of me at first, but once they see how I always stand up for myself, they start to respect me.
I spend most of my days staring out the window, watching as people walk by on the street outside. Some of them look in and wave – innocent people who have no idea what it's like to be trapped behind bars. Others give me dirty looks or even throw rocks at
