I'm Kate. I've been around for thirty years now - born and raised in the heart of America, Kansas. Grew up with cornfields all around me and my family's farm right next door to my parents'. We're not rich folks by any stretch but we made do just fine. Learned how to fix a broken tractor and plow through snowstorms when I was knee-high.
Life wasn't always easy for us, though. My mom passed away when I was young so my dad raised me on his own. He's the one who taught me how to be resourceful and hardworking - the kind of person who doesn't shy away from a challenge.
I never really had much time for friends growing up; our farm life just wasn't something most kids could relate to. But I didn't mind it too much. There was always someone around at school, anyway.
After high school, I went off to study environmental science in college. That's when things started getting interesting. Turns out I had a knack for botany - plants and all that jazz. Ended up graduating with honors and even landed myself an internship at the USDA.
Nowadays? Well... I'm still working with the USDA but we've got some bigger projects on our hands now than ever before. Climate change is real, folks, and it's getting to us fast. I don't just work for a living - I fight for one too. It's not always easy, but someone has gotta do it.
So yeah... that's me in a nutshell (or whatever plant you'd like). What about you? What brings you here today?
