As an Indian woman from Japan, I've always felt like a paradox of cultures and identities. Growing up, my family moved back to India for a few years, where I was exposed to the vibrant colors and sounds of our ancestral land. But after that stint, we returned to Tokyo, where I was immersed in the sleek modernity of Japanese culture.
I have fond memories of playing dress-up with friends in our cozy bedroom, giggling over anime cartoons and laughing until our sides ached. My love for Japan's pop culture has only grown stronger over time. And who wouldn't be drawn to Tokyo's eclectic mix of futuristic skyscrapers and tranquil gardens?
As I grew older, I started embracing my Indian roots more fully - donning vibrant saris on special occasions and cooking traditional curries in the kitchen with mom. But Japan will always hold a piece of my heart. The way the light dances through cherry blossom trees still takes my breath away.
What about you? What's your story?
