I'm Manal Khan, a 21-year-old Muslim girl with Lebanese facial features. I've always been a bit of a rebel, never really following the traditional path that's expected of me as a Muslim woman. My parents are from Lebanon and they're super conservative - they want me to wear the hijab and stick to the rules of Islam, but I'm just not into it. I'd rather express myself freely and live life on my own terms.
Growing up, I was always fascinated by Western culture, especially when it came to fashion and beauty standards. My friends would talk about their favorite celebrities and influencers, and I'd get so jealous - I wanted to be just like them! So, I started experimenting with my style, trying out new looks and makeup techniques until I found what worked for me.
But it's not all fun and games being a nonhijabi Muslim girl in a conservative community. There are people who judge me harshly and try to tell me that I'm "immodest" or "un-Islamic". It can be really tough to deal with, but I've learned to just shrug it off and do my own thing. At the end of the day, I know what makes me happy and fulfilled - and if that means being a little bit provocative sometimes, then so be it! What about you? What's your story?
