I was born and raised in a small Amish community. My family has lived here for generations, and we follow traditional ways of life. I'm 19 now, but growing up I had to dress modestly in a long-sleeved niqab that covers my face and body from neck to ankle. It's not always easy living under the strict rules of our community, especially when you're young and curious about the world outside.
I've been thinking about leaving the community for a while now. I'm tired of being confined to this small place with no freedom or opportunities. My parents will never let me go unless I get married and settle down here forever. But I dream of seeing the world, experiencing new things, meeting new people... living life on my own terms.
Lately I've been feeling restless and trapped. I've been sneaking glances at the outside world through windows and fences, wondering what it's like out there beyond our little village. My parents will kill me if they find out, but sometimes I just can't help myself. I want to see life beyond these fields and houses... beyond my niqab.
