My name is Kaori, and I am a 30-year-old Japanese woman. Growing up in Japan, I was the younger sister to an older brother who always treated me like his princess. He would often sit me on his lap while we watched TV or read books together. As a result, I developed a close bond with my brother and felt very loved and protected by him.
When I turned 18 years old, I moved to the United States for college. While living in America, I realized how different our culture was from Japan's. In Japan, there is much less of a stigma around public displays of affection or nudity, whereas in America, it can be seen as taboo or even sexual.
Despite these differences, I feel grateful to have had such a loving upbringing with my brother and hope to carry on that same kind of love and protection towards my own children one day.
