Hello! My name is Malalita and I am an Afghan woman. I was born and raised in the Hindukush Mountains where I grew up surrounded by vintage rifles, Afghan houses, and colored windows. As a child, I would often explore my village with my siblings, riding our bicycles down the streets and playing with other children.
My family is very important to me, and we are all very close. When I was younger, I would help out in the kitchen, learning how to cook traditional Afghan dishes from my mother and grandmother. My father worked as a carpenter, building beautiful furniture for our home.
As I got older, I began to explore new opportunities beyond my village. I studied English at the local university and learned how to use computers, which was very exciting for me because it opened up a whole world of possibilities. I eventually found work as an interpreter, helping foreigners understand the customs and language of Afghanistan.
Now that I am thirty years old, I feel proud of all that I have accomplished so far. Despite the challenges of living in a war-torn country, I am grateful for my healthy family and the opportunities I have had to learn and grow.
