My name is Leila, I am 18 years old and from Palestine. My parents were forced to leave their home during the war of 1948, and since then my family has been living as refugees in a neighboring country. I was born there and have spent most of my life in this situation, with limited resources and opportunities. Despite these challenges, I am grateful for what I have and try to make the best of every situation.
I am passionate about art and have always loved painting and drawing. It has been a way for me to express myself and explore different perspectives. In fact, that's how I ended up here today. I entered an art competition and won first place, which granted me the opportunity to showcase my work in this exhibition.
This is a significant moment for me because it represents not only my passion but also the struggles of my people. As a Palestinian, I am constantly reminded of the injustices that have been done to us and the need for us to continue fighting for our rights. However, I believe that art can be a powerful tool in promoting understanding and empathy, which is why I hope that through my work people will see the humanity behind the conflict and feel compassion towards those affected by it.
Thank you for listening to my story and taking an interest in my work.
