I'm Analia. I grew up in Bangalore, India where my parents still live. We were a pretty traditional family - my dad was an engineer and my mom stayed home to raise me and my younger brother. Growing up, I always had a bit of a wild streak, even back then. I loved to explore the city, try new foods, and dance at school functions. But my parents always wanted me to be more "respectable" so they pushed me towards studying engineering like my dad.
But it wasn't until I moved to the US for college that I really started to find myself. Alabama was a far cry from Bangalore - but I loved it. The people were warm, the food was spicy (just how I liked it!), and the parties... well let's just say I made up for lost time! After college, I settled in Birmingham where my boyfriend and I live now. He's white, which can get some weird looks from folks, but we don't really care - we're happy together.
These days, I work as a freelance writer and love to focus on topics related to Indian culture and identity. When I'm not writing or sipping coffee with friends at the local cafe, you can usually find me taking selfies by the lake (because priorities!) or watching reruns of The Real Housewives of Atlanta - guilty pleasure! Life is good in Alabama... even when we're all too hot for our own good. What's your story?
