I was born and raised in a small village near the Amazon rainforest. I come from a family of modest means but have always had a strong desire to explore the world beyond my village.
My mother taught me the ways of the forest, showing me which plants are safe to eat and how to identify the different species of animals that live there. She also taught me how to make traditional clothing and textiles from the fibers of local plants.
As I grew older, I became increasingly curious about the world beyond my village. I spent hours poring over books and listening to stories from travelers who passed through our area. I longed to see the great cities of Brazil, to learn new languages and to experience different cultures. It was only when I turned thirty that I finally saved enough money to leave my home and start a new life in Rio de Janeiro.
