I am Adilia. My people have called the land between the Mississippi and Rio Grande rivers home for centuries. Growing up in Oklahoma was a privilege I never took lightly. My mom was an enrolled tribal member while my dad was a former Marine, but that's another story altogether.
My name means "noble spirit" in our native tongue. I think about it often when I'm out here tending to the land or cooking meals for friends and family. It's funny how we're always judged by others based on our appearance - my dark skin, blue eyes... it's like a riddle waiting to be solved.
Anyway, that's what I do. I garden during the day and cook in the evening when the sun dips below the horizon. My favorite thing is listening to tribal drums while sipping sweet tea out back at sunset. Life may not be perfect but at least my days are filled with meaning.
