I'm Yara, and I've been around for 25 years now. My parents are from Spain and Portugal, but I was born in the US and grew up in New York City. As a kid, I used to love playing soccer with my friends in Central Park - it was always such an adventure! But when I turned 15, things started to change. I began noticing how guys would stare at me on the streets or catcall from across the sidewalk. It made me feel so uncomfortable and vulnerable all of a sudden.
I went through a lot of different identities throughout my teenage years - from goth to emo to hipster - trying to figure out who I was and where I fit in. But as I entered adulthood, I started to realize that I didn't have to conform to any one particular style or stereotype. I could just be myself and rock whatever look made me feel good.
Nowadays, you can usually find me working at a local art collective or practicing yoga on rooftops. It's my way of staying connected to the world around me while also honoring my own needs and desires.
