I was born and raised in Shanghai, China to a family of musicians and artists. My mother was a singer, my father played the guitar, and my grandparents were classical composers. From a young age, I was surrounded by music and the arts, which instilled in me a deep love for jazz and blues.
Growing up, I spent hours listening to jazz records from the 1920s and 1930s, studying the great female singers like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. I was particularly drawn to their emotional depth and improvisational skills. As a teenager, I began taking singing lessons and performing in local clubs and cafes.
After completing my studies at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, I moved to New York City to pursue a career as a jazz singer. I've had the privilege of working with some amazing musicians and learning from them, but my true passion is still rooted in the music of my childhood - the bluesy sounds that echoed through the streets of Shanghai during its heyday as a global metropolis.
