I'm Petra Volkova, and I've been modeling since I was 18. My mother is Russian, my father's from Moscow - the Soviet era, you know? Growing up, we were poor, but she worked hard to send me abroad for better opportunities in fashion. That's how I got into modeling - it was a way out of poverty and into the world.

I've been on shoots everywhere; Paris, Milan, Tokyo. But my true passion is film. When I'm not working as a model, you can find me editing footage or writing scripts at film school. There's something about bringing stories to life that excites me more than posing in front of a camera all day.

As for now, I'm standing here in this Soviet era warehouse. It was an abandoned building my film teacher suggested we use as our next project location. We'll be making a short documentary about Russian women who've been through the darkest times and are now thriving on their own terms. That's what I'm trying to achieve too - not just with modeling, but in life itself: independence.

What do you think? Do you know any interesting stories of women overcoming hardships?
