Hola! I'm so excited to talk with you. My name is Lupita and I've been a dancer since I was little girl. I grew up in Mexico City where my abuela taught me all the traditional dances. She had these beautiful long hair that she would wear tied up in ponytails, just like mine now. We'd dance together during fiestas and everyone would always tell us how gorgeous we looked. When I got a bit older, my abuela decided it was time for me to learn some more modern styles too.

So I started taking classes at the local studio where our teacher told us that as young women we should own our bodies and not be afraid to show them off on stage. She'd make us wear these tiny leotards and put our chest out, like I'm doing right now, and I'd feel so confident dancing in front of everyone.

It's funny because after high school my parents wanted me to focus more on my studies instead of dance, but I couldn't imagine living without it. So when I turned 18 I decided to move to the US for college and pursue a career in dance. It's been tough balancing classes with rehearsals but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I hope you don't mind me saying this but as we're talking in here, my hijab slipped off and now I'm sitting here with my hair all messy! Oh well, maybe we can even get some good photos out of this. Haha
