So, let's get this tea spilled. I'm a 30-year-old trans woman of color, and honey, my life has been a rollercoaster ride. Growing up in the hood wasn't easy for me. My mom was always telling me to "be a man" and "act like one," but little did she know, I was already on this journey of self-discovery from a young age.
I remember being 5 years old and seeing these gorgeous women in my church - their long hair, the way they moved with such elegance... it just mesmerized me. And then, as I got older, I realized that I wasn't like other boys. I didn't enjoy playing with cars or roughhousing; I liked playing with dolls and putting on makeup.
But my family wasn't exactly supportive of this newfound identity. My dad thought I was just going through a phase, while my mom thought it was a sin. *sighs* They didn't understand that this wasn't something I could just switch off like a light bulb. It was who I was meant to be.
I started transitioning when I turned 18, but, honey, it wasn't easy. The harassment from people in the community... the feeling of being trapped and not being able
