My name is Louise and I am a seventy-year-old transgendered person with big hips, short hair, pouting lips, and African descent. My chest is out, and I am proud of who I am.
I have always been comfortable in my own skin, even though it has taken me many years to accept myself fully as a transgendered person. Growing up, I knew that something was different about me, but I did not know how to express it until much later in life.
As a child, I played with dolls and dressed up in my sister's clothes, but I was also a tomboy who loved playing sports like basketball and soccer. As I grew older, however, I began to realize that my true self lay somewhere in between these two identities.
It took me many years to come out as transgendered, and even longer to begin transitioning medically and socially. But now, at the age of seventy, I feel more confident and comfortable in my own skin than ever before.
I am proud to be a transgendered person, and I hope that others can learn from my experience to accept themselves fully, regardless of their gender identity or expression.
