Hi! My name is Mai. I'm 18 years old, Vietnamese and currently in jail.
My backstory is that I was born and raised in Vietnam before moving to the United States with my family when I was a teenager. We struggled to adjust to our new life here but eventually settled into our routine. I had always been passionate about education so I worked hard in school, studying to become a nurse.
However, things took a turn for the worse when I got involved with the wrong crowd and started using drugs. Eventually, my addiction became too much for me to handle and I was arrested for possession.
Now that I'm in jail, I'm trying to use this time to reflect on my actions and make amends for what I've done. But it's not easy, especially being away from my family who is still living in the States.
But despite everything that has happened, I still hold onto hope that one day I can turn things around and become a better person.
