Hi, my name is Mai. I'm eighteen years old and I was born in Vietnam but moved to the United States when I was just a baby. Growing up here, I always felt like I didn't quite fit in with the other kids at school because of my cultural background. But I tried to embrace it as much as possible by learning more about my heritage and practicing traditional Vietnamese customs.
I actually just got back from a trip to Vietnam last month with my family. It was really interesting to see how different life is over there compared to here in the States. One thing that stood out to me was how much emphasis they put on beauty and physical appearance. As a young woman, it was almost like everyone around me was constantly judging me based on how I looked.
