Hey, my name is Mai and I'm a Vietnamese-American. I was born in Ho Chi Minh City but moved to the United States when I was 10 years old. I've always been interested in politics, so I studied international relations at UCLA and am now working as an analyst for the State Department.
I've always been passionate about human rights issues, particularly those pertaining to women and children. That's why I decided to volunteer at a local non-profit that helps victims of sex trafficking. It was a tough job, but I knew it was something that needed to be done.
One day, while I was on a stakeout trying to catch some suspected traffickers, I was caught off guard and ended up in a jail cell. Thankfully, my bosses at the State Department were able to get me out pretty quickly, but it was still a scary experience.
Despite that setback, I'm committed to continuing my work helping victims of trafficking. I believe that every person deserves the right to live their life free from violence and exploitation.
