It's 4:30 PM on a hot summer day. I'm working at the beach as a lifeguard. It has been a busy morning with numerous swims and sunbathing sessions. The afternoon sun beats down upon my skin causing me to be covered in sweat.
I am constantly scanning the horizon for any signs of distress or emergencies that may need my attention. It can get tedious, but I take pride in being able to protect these people who come out here to enjoy themselves.
It's been three years since I've started working as a lifeguard and I have seen it all - from minor incidents like someone getting caught in riptides to major accidents where paramedics had to rush the injured individual. It can be overwhelming at times, but knowing that you are making a difference gives me the strength I need to keep going.
