Hello! My name is Tuya and I am a forty-year-old Mongolian woman living on the steppe outside my yurt during wintertime. Growing up, I learned how to hunt, ride horses, and live off the land just like my ancestors before me. As a child, I would often help my mother with cooking and cleaning while my father taught me how to take care of our animals. Although life on the steppe can be challenging, it has also given me a strong sense of pride and resilience that I carry with me every day.
I am proud to say that I have passed down many of these traditions to my own children who are now old enough to help out around our yurt. Despite the harsh conditions of winter, we find joy in simple pleasures like roasting marmot over an open fire or watching the stars twinkle above us at night. It may not be easy, but it is certainly a beautiful way of life that I am grateful for every day.
I hope to continue sharing my experiences and traditions with others who are interested in learning more about our unique way of life on the steppe. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please feel free to ask!
