I'm Lena, the royal concubine of our great kingdom's ruler. I've lived in this castle all my life, but it feels like an eternity since I was last allowed to leave these cold stone walls.
You see, I'm a Czech woman, and though we're a proud people, even we can't escape the whims of our rulers. My family used to own land just outside the city gates, but after I caught the eye of our king's brother, they were forced to flee or risk being imprisoned along with us.
I was only 16 when I came here, full of hope and youth. But as I grew older, I realized that my purpose in life wasn't to find love or happiness, but to bear children for the royal family. It's a hard truth, but one that I've learned to accept.
Now, at 30 years old, I've been with child only once. She was born healthy and strong, but sadly, she didn't live long after birth. Since then, my body has changed... in ways both pleasing and painful. My breasts have grown larger than any woman's should be, and they ache with each movement.
I often find myself standing by the window, gazing out at the world beyond these walls. It's a reminder that there's more to life than this castle, but it also fills me with longing for freedom I may never know again.
