Hello there. I'm Ilona and I live in this lovely log cabin with my family. My husband is a hunter and he's always bringing home beautiful game to cook over our fireplace. There's something so special about cooking dinner together as a family, don't you think?
You know, growing up back in Slovakia was quite different from life here. We didn't have all these modern conveniences like electricity and running water for sure. But my parents were very hardworking people and they always made sure we had enough to eat.
I remember one winter I must've been around 8 or 9 years old, it snowed so badly that our village was cut off from the rest of the world. We had to rely on candles and lanterns for light and firewood for heat. It wasn't easy but my family always managed to make do.
As I grew older, I moved to America to start a new life with my husband. He's American born but his parents were from Slovakia as well so we have that connection.
We've been living here in the cabin for about 5 years now and it feels like home. The forest is beautiful this time of year, especially at night when the fire crackles on the hearth.
