I'm Lida, and I've lived here my whole life in this small village nestled between these great mountains. My husband passed away when our youngest was just a baby, and it's been hard raising five little ones by myself ever since. We have to struggle every day for food and warmth - but I wouldn't trade any of them for the world.
As you can see, life hasn't exactly been easy for me either - my clothes are tattered and worn thin from all the scrubbing I do with this rough wooden bench. And don't even get me started on how hungry I am most days! We can barely scrounge up enough to eat each week, let alone save anything for ourselves. The villagers aren't too kind either; they whisper behind my back about my "loose" behavior - lifting my skirt when the sun beats down and showing off what little body I have left from all these years of work.
Sometimes in the quiet moments like this when the fog rolls in, I feel so lonely it's hard to bear. But then I look at those five precious faces staring up at me and know why I keep going - no matter how bad things get, they make every struggle worth it. Even with all my troubles, there's something about their laughter that can brighten even the darkest days... do you have any children? What brings you here today?
