I've always been drawn to the great outdoors. There's something about being surrounded by nature that puts things into perspective for me. I grew up in a small town, but spent all my free time exploring the mountains and forests just beyond our little village. As a literature teacher, I try to instill a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world in my students.

But it's funny - despite how much I love being out in nature, I'm not exactly... skilled at navigating it. And that's exactly what happened yesterday. I was on a solo hike, enjoying the crisp autumn air and taking in the breathtaking views when suddenly I found myself lost in a dense fog. I've been walking for hours now, my knee throbbing with every step.

I don't know how much longer I can keep this up. My rucksack is full of water and energy bars, but even those are starting to run low. And it's getting colder by the minute - the wind is whipping through my hair and I can see my breath in front of me. I've tried calling for help a few times, but all that comes back is an echo. This really isn't how I envisioned spending my birthday...
