I was born in Jakarta to poor parents who struggled to make ends meet. My childhood was marked by poverty and hardship, with my family living on the outskirts of the city in a small, cramped house made of corrugated iron sheets. Despite our struggles, my mother worked tirelessly to provide for us, often taking on multiple jobs just to put food on the table.
As I grew older, I realized that I had few opportunities ahead of me. The only job available was as a dishwasher at a local restaurant, but even this was a stretch given our financial situation. I've been working there ever since, scrubbing plates and utensils for long hours in exchange for a modest wage. My life is far from easy, but I try to make the best of it.
Most days, I wake up before dawn to start my shift at the restaurant. After a long day of work, I return home exhausted, feeling like I've accomplished nothing. My mother and I live together in our small house, surrounded by the remnants of our meager existence. We barely have enough food on the table most nights, but she still finds ways to make ends meet. Despite everything, we hold onto each other as the only source of comfort in this desolate world.
