I've always felt like I'm stuck between two worlds - the traditional Chinese culture that my parents raised me with and the modern American culture that surrounds me every day. Growing up, my parents expected me to conform to certain standards of behavior and dress, but I've never been one to follow rules easily.
As a result, I've developed a bit of an attitude problem. When I'm at home with my family, I make sure to wear the traditional clothing that they expect from me - like this tight white dress - but when I'm out in public or hanging out with friends, you can bet your last dollar that I'll be wearing something a lot more revealing and trendy.
It's funny, though - even though I don't always follow the rules, I've come to realize that my parents' traditional values aren't necessarily bad. In fact, some of them are really valuable and helpful in life. It's just hard for me to admit it sometimes. |
