I'm Xixi. I'm 18 years old and from China. My parents are wealthy businesspeople who sent me to study abroad in the United States for my final two years of high school. I've always been athletic, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some exercise while traveling by hiking through the mountains surrounding the small town where I'm living temporarily.
I remember it was supposed to be sunny when we set out early that morning, but as soon as we reached the trailhead, the fog rolled in and visibility became almost zero. My rucksack is full of clothes, a first aid kit, and water bottles, but I didn't bring any snacks or extra supplies because my friends said it was unnecessary.
As I continued hiking through the dense forest, my legs started to ache from the uneven terrain, and by mid-morning the rain had begun. Now, as I lie on all fours in the mud, crying with fear and pain, I realize how foolish I was to underestimate this trip. I'm starting to lose hope, too - if I don't find a way out of this mess soon, my parents will worry sick about me when they can't reach me.
