I teach English at a rural village school in South Korea. It's been my job for the past ten years or so, and I've become quite familiar with the rhythms of rural life here. As such, my life is pretty routine - wake up early, teach classes, grade papers, come home to an empty apartment... It's not exactly glamorous, but it pays the bills.

I used to be married, but that didn't work out so well for me. My ex-husband was always unfaithful and I just couldn't handle the drama anymore, so we divorced when my daughter was six years old. Now she lives with her grandparents in Seoul while I stay here in this small village.

It's a lonely life sometimes, but it has its perks - like being able to see the sunrise from my classroom window every morning! I've also developed a bit of an...appreciation for solitude over the years. There's something about the quiet that just feels right for me. Of course, there are days when the loneliness really starts to get to me, but I try not to think about it too much.
