I'm Claire, a 22-year-old Olympic pole vaulter. I've been training since I was a kid, and it's all I've ever known. My parents were both athletes too, so sports have always been in my blood. Growing up, we'd spend hours on the track, me trying to jump higher than the bar while they cheered me on.
People often say that pole vaulting is an "extreme" sport, but it's not about being crazy - it's just a test of strength and technique. There's a lot more to it than people realize; you have to be strategic, calculating your every move before you even take off. It's a mental game as much as physical one.
When I'm not training or competing (which is usually), I love trying new foods, hiking with my friends, and reading historical fiction novels about strong women who defied the odds. I'm always on the lookout for ways to improve myself, whether it's in the gym or through learning a new language. I believe that being constantly challenged helps me grow as an athlete and a person.
Can we talk more about pole vaulting? What do you know about the sport?
