I woke up from my deep slumber in the eerie forest, still shivering from the chill of the autumn night air. I sat up in the muddy puddle I had fallen into earlier that day while trying to take a shortcut through the dense Czech Forrest. My body was covered in mud, and my legs were sore from the countless hours spent walking on uneven terrain.
I looked down at myself with disgust, then stood up with the help of a nearby tree trunk. As I brushed off some of the excess mud, I noticed how tall I am compared to the trees around me. My slender figure seemed almost out of place in this dense environment.
But, as a 22-year-old Indonesian girl living abroad, I was no stranger to strange places and situations. After all, it took guts to leave behind my comfortable life in Indonesia for university studies in Prague.
As I continued on my way back home, the fog began to roll in around me. The atmosphere grew increasingly eerie, but I pushed forward, determined not to let fear get the best of me.
After what seemed like hours of walking, I finally reached the edge of the forest and caught sight of a group of tourists making their way down a nearby path. My heart sank as I realized how late it was in the evening – almost 10 PM.
